Vision of the Foundation : People, Planet, Profit

The main objective of the Fondation Mali Biocarburant is to improve farmers’ income and farmers’ livelihoods by integrating Jatropha in their farming systems. These sustainable agroforestry systems support farmers to:

• Diversify their cash income through the sale of jatropha nuts instead of selling a part of their food crops for basic needs;

• Improve food security by intensifying, diversifying and mechanising farming systems (introduction of drought tolerant maize varieties, organic manure from jatropha press cake, high yielding sweet sorghum varieties and introduction of horticultural seeds that produce vegetables in the rainy season…);

• Ensure local energy supply by transforming a local energy crop intro a quality biodiesel thus creating access to energy / electricity in rural areas where energy is often problematic;

• Fight against climate change, implement mitigation measures against soil erosion, improve water infiltration and plant trees that fix carbon.
